EVA Air's Growing US and Canada Network: 7 American Cities Now Served

EVA Air is one of Taiwan’s three major carriers, alongside China Airlines and Starlux Airlines. The privately owned airline has grown steadily since operating its first flight on July 1, 1991, and today serves more than 60 destinations across four continents (except Africa) with a fleet of around 88 aircraft. Over the years, it has continued to expand both its network and fleet, and has maintained a strong focus on long-haul connectivity.

Specifically, the airline’s presence in North America has been central to that growth. EVA entered the US market in December 1992 with a nonstop service between Taipei and Los Angeles, operated by its newly delivered Boeing 747-400. The following year, it added a Taipei–Seattle–Newark route and became the first Asian carrier to serve Newark Liberty International Airport and the only airline to offer a direct link between Seattle and Taiwan at the time.

Since its initial entry into the US market, EVA Air has steadily expanded its North American footprint. Earlier this month, on October 3, the airline inaugurated a new route between Taipei Taoyuan International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, making it the only Asian carrier to serve two destinations in Texas. The service began with three weekly round trips, which will increase to five weekly flights from November 18 and become a daily operation from December 15.

Indeed, the route builds on the airline’s long-standing connection to the region. EVA has operated cargo flights to and from Dallas/Fort Worth since 1998, and the route now follows growing passenger demand fueled by the region’s expanding economy and business presence. With this addition, EVA Air now serves seven US cities: Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, and Dallas/Fort Worth.

EVA Air Has The Highest Load Factors Among Carriers On US–Taiwan Routes

Undoubtedly, EVA Air’s North American network has grown significantly over the past decade, with frequencies increasing across several of its US routes. Unsurprisingly, the West Coast remains EVA’s busiest transpacific corridor. Both Los Angeles and San Francisco see 93 monthly departures each, according to Cirium data. These routes continue to attract strong performance, supported by large Taiwanese communities and extensive connection opportunities through Taipei.

According to the US Department of Transportation data, in the fourth quarter of 2024, the average load factor on flights between the United States and Taiwan stood at 78.52%. Among the carriers operating these routes, EVA Air recorded the highest average load factor at 81.52%, while Delta Air Lines reported the lowest at 64.61% during the same period.

In addition to EVA Air, several airlines operate between the US and Taiwan during this winter season, including China Airlines, STARLUX Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines. Of these, four carriers, EVA, China Airlines, STARLUX, and United, maintain regular flights to and from San Francisco and Seattle-Tacoma.

Canada Complements EVA Air’s Expanding North American Reach

Besides its strong US network, EVA Air has also expanded steadily across Canada. The airline currently operates flights to Toronto and Vancouver. EVA Air first entered the Canadian market in 2010, following the signing of a visa-free travel agreement between Taiwan and Canada, which helped boost bilateral tourism and business travel.

The airline launched its first Canadian service between Taipei and Toronto Pearson International Airport, operating three weekly flights with the Boeing 777-300ER. On the return leg, the flight made a technical stop in Anchorage. Over time, growing demand prompted the Star Alliance member to expand frequencies, adding a fourth weekly flight in 2014, a fifth in 2016, and moving to daily operations in 2017.

Today, EVA Air operates daily service to both Toronto and Vancouver, offering over 200,000 seats annually between Taiwan and Canada. Combined with its US network, the carrier now runs 89 weekly flights across North America, making it the leading Taiwanese airline by destinations and frequency in the region. By the end of the year, this total is expected to rise to 94 weekly flights as additional US frequencies are introduced.
