Delta Air Lines is expanding its transatlantic route network by adding a new sunny European destination to its map. The Atlanta-based airline will launch a nonstop flight from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Porto Airport (OPO) in Portugal during the summer 2026 season.
Marking the carrier’s first-ever daily service between these cities, Delta Air Lines will begin flights on May 21, 2026. This announcement is part of Delta’s broader transatlantic expansion and reflects the airline’s commitment to offering more destinations “than ever before.”
Boeing 767 Flights Between New York And Porto
Although the summer 2026 season is still more than six months away, 
Delta Air Lines is already gearing up with major expansion plans. The addition of the Porto destination to its route network builds on Delta’s existing service to Portugal. Delta operates a nonstop direct route between JFK and the country’s capital, Lisbon (LIS).
Spanning 2,887 nautical miles (5,347 km), the New York to Porto route will be served daily, using the carrier’s fleet of Boeing 767-300ERs. The carrier’s 767-300ER offers a four-class cabin layout for the flight with 26 seats in business class, 18 seats in premium economy, 21 in economy plus, and 151 in economy class.
The Atlanta-based airline will be the sole carrier operating nonstop direct flights between JFK and Porto. However, it is worth noting that both TAP Air Portugal and United Airlines offer direct nonstop service from its nearby hub at Newark International Airport (EWR). Commenting on the transatlantic expansion, Paul Baldoni, Senior Vice President of Network Planning at Delta Air Lines, said:

Whether discovering Portugal or traveling to our other new destinations such as Sardinia and Malta, these additions expand choice for our customers and reinforce JFK’s role as a leading global gateway.”
A Part Of The Broader Transatlantic Expansion
The corridor between JFK and Porto is part of the airline’s broader transatlantic expansion for the season. Alongside Porto, Delta Air Lines will also introduce service to six additional European cities.
Beginning in the summer 2026 season, the airline will launch new nonstop service from 
Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Madrid (MAD), Spain, and Nice (NCE), France. It will also increase flights to Barcelona (BCN), Spain, and Milan (MXP), Italy, and add new nonstop routes from Seattle (SEA) to both Barcelona (BCN) and Rome (FCO), Italy.
In summer 2026, Delta will expand its route network with two new island destinations, offering nonstop service from JFK to both Malta (MLA) and Sardinia (CAG). The airline is also strengthening its connectivity to Ireland by adding three more weekly flights between Detroit (DTW) and Dublin (DUB).
Delta Cuts Geneva From Transatlantic Schedule
While Delta Air Lines is adding several new European destinations, Geneva is being dropped from the network. The airline will not operate the route in 2026, with all flights removed from the schedule.
The change was first reported by Ishrion Aviation and later confirmed on Delta Air Lines’ website as well as through other booking systems. As it stands, the final departure from New York JFK to Geneva is scheduled for October 19, 2025.
Geneva is the latest European airport to be removed from Delta’s map. It follows London Gatwick Airport (LGW), with the last departure taking place on September 7, 2025. Elsewhere, the 
SkyTeam member will end New York (JFK) to Brussels (BRU) flights on January 5, 2026, with the Belgian capital to remain served from Atlanta (ATL).
