A Fiji Airways flight on Thursday, October 9, ended up circling the skies of Mid Canterbury after the Boeing 737-800 experienced a bird strike on departure. Fiji Airways flight 450 had departed from Christchurch Airport for the nearly four-hour journey to Nadi Airport, Fiji, when the 737-800 hit a flock of birds on departure, forcing the airplane to circle the airport for two hours to burn fuel before declaring an emergency landing. Boeing announced on Oct. 8, 2025 a new $173 million contract from the U.S. Air Force to produce eight more MH-139A Grey Wolf helicopters, raising the total number of aircraft under contract to 34. BermudAir is expanding its network with the launch of new nonstop flights to Newark Liberty International Airport and LaGuardia Airport later this month. These new routes complement the airline’s existing service to Westchester County Airport in White Plains. Southwest Airlines may soon seek to enter the premium travel market with plans to open its own private airport lounges, according to a customer survey that surfaced this week. PARIS – NATO will kick of its annual nuclear-deterrence exercise Steadfast Noon on Monday with what will be among the largest number of participating aircraft in recent years.This year’s edition will center around the North Sea area in Northwest Europe, with aircraft operating out of the Netherlands’ Volkel Air Base as the main hub, NATO officials said in a briefing ahead of the exercise.
