Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) has unveiled a special new livery on one of its aircraft to celebrate the carrier’s 80th anniversary.  The aircraft in question, an Airbus A330-300 with registration LN-RKR, has had a blue hue applied across the length of its fuselage, with the carrier’s 1980s livery superimposed on top.  This historical paint scheme combines a stylized version of the flags of the three countries that founded the airline (Denmark, Sweden and Norway) as well as the lettering “SAS” in very large fonts. A large “80” has also been painted on the tail of the aircraft.  Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) The…

The altitude at which an airplane flies will affect its flight characteristics. At high altitudes, they typically experience better fuel efficiency. The air is less dense at high altitudes, so airplanes generate less drag. At low altitudes, conversely, the dense air results in more drag and poorer fuel efficiency. Ground effect, however, can reduce the amount of drag an airplane generates at very low altitudes by 25% to 50%. An Introduction to Ground Effect Ground effect is a phenomenon that involves reduced drag and increased lift when an airplane flies near the surface. Because it involves flying at very low…

Etihad Airways seemingly has plans to introduce a higher density layout for one of its newest jets, and I can’t help but find this to be a quirky layout… Etihad will fly three-cabin, 194-seat Airbus A321LRs Abu Dhabi-based Etihad is growing at a fast pace at the moment. While Gulf carriers are known for their wide body jets, Etihad’s growth as of late has largely been with new narrow body aircraft. That’s because the airline is taking delivery of 30 Airbus A321LRs. These narrow body planes have good range, but what makes them unique is how they’re configured. Etihad has…

Lufthansa is currently trying to work on its passenger experience, particularly on long haul flights. We’re seeing the airline progressively roll out its new long haul Allegris cabin concept, which includes a new first class and new business class, among other things. In early 2025, Lufthansa Group acquired a 41% stake in Italy’s ITA Airways. Italy is an important market for all major European carriers, and it’s one where SkyTeam has historically been strongest, so Lufthansa Group wanted to change that. Shortly after that happened, ITA Airways left the SkyTeam alliance, with plans to eventually join the Star Alliance, and adopt Miles & More as its loyalty program. While we knew that ITA Airways would adopt Miles & More as its loyalty program as of April 1, we also now know that the airline will officially join the Star Alliance as of…
