Earlier this week, LOT Polish revealed flights from its Warsaw Chopin hub to Almaty. Almaty is not Central Asia’s most populous city—the Uzbek capital of Tashkent is, and the carrier already flies there. However, it is number one in Kazakhstan. The addition came shortly after the Italian airline Neos added one-stop Milan-Almaty flights on the Boeing 737. When LOT Polish’s never-before-served route starts next year, it will become the Star Alliance member’s third destination in Central Asia. It will join Tashkent (flights began in 2024) and Nur-Sultan (2017), which is Kazakhstan’s capital. Timed at up to 7h 20m, Almaty will…

Diamond Aircraft is bringing back one of its most recognizable models. The Austrian manufacturer announced it is restarting European production of the DA20i Katana, a lightweight two-seat trainer that helped define the company’s early success. Diamond said order books are now open at its factory in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. The decision follows growing demand from flight schools, flying clubs, and private pilots looking for more affordable and efficient aircraft. While production of the DA20 series continued in Canada, the European line has been dormant for more than a decade. With the relaunch, Diamond aims to meet local demand with a modernized version of the original…

Airbus is one of the largest commercial aircraft manufacturers in the world. The company has also been a prominent aerospace company, but as of the late 2010s, Airbus surpassed Boeing as the world’s biggest manufacturer of airliners. Overall, the company’s market capitalization is just under $190 billion, more than any other aerospace company. Since Airbus was founded in 1970, the company has introduced a wide variety of airliners. This includes the first Airbus aircraft, the…
Ukraine has taken its most ambitious step yet toward rebuilding its air defenses, signing a letter of intent with Sweden that could see the war-ravaged nation acquire up to 150 Saab Gripen fighters to replace its aging Soviet-era fleet. During a joint press conference in Linköping, Sweden, on October 22, 2025, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the agreement, describing it as the first move in a long-term partnership aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s air capabilities. The letter of intent covers cooperation agreements for air combat and defence, including the potential export of the latest variant of the Swedish multi-role fighter jet, the Gripen E, developed by Saab AB. Indian regulators tried to get other countries to buy into a “code of conduct,” to limit foreign job opportunities for Indian pilots. Fortunately this was pretty quickly rejected, but talk about a self-serving proposal… India wants to restrict its pilots from working abroad Aviation in India has seen a huge amount of growth in recent years, particularly with the expansion of IndiGo, but also with the changes at Air India. That’s expected to continue in the coming decades, as Indian carriers try to regain market share that has been lost to Gulf carriers, among other airlines. As you’d expect, this…
On October 22, Air France announced flights from Paris CDG to Las Vegas. The route will begin in April, missing Easter but in time for summer demand, including from the US. While it has served Sin City for the annual Consumer Electronics Show, this time it’s different: it’ll be a proper, regular operation. It comes amid the airline’s growth elsewhere, including a new route to Phuket and a return to Punta Cana. All three markets revolve around leisure travel. In recent years, the SkyTeam member has added a new US destination annually. For example, Denver joined its network in 2021,…
