A four-engined aircraft, also known as a quadjet, is, unsurprisingly, a jet aircraft powered by four jet engines. These four engines offer increased power and allow larger aircraft to carry heavier loads and be deployed on popular routes. Quadjets quickly rose in popularity through aircraft such as the Boeing 747, Airbus A340, and A380. The first quadjet, was the Havilland Comet. This was the world’s first commercial jetliner, and following this aircraft’s introduction, several other aircraft adopted the four-engine design in the decades that followed. However, today, more airlines are considering twin-engine aircraft, as they move away from hub-to-hub flying,…

The Boeing 737 was, until recently, the most delivered jet-powered airliner of all time. It was developed into four distinct generations, and the third-generation 737NG is the most common of the four (as deliveries of the even more popular 737 MAX are still ongoing). The 737NG was designed to go head-to-head against the Airbus A320 family, and for the most part, it succeeded. Year over year, 737NG sales routinely matched those of the A320. However, while the 737NG as a whole was a successful program, sales between the variants of the 737NG were not evenly distributed. The 737-800 was tremendously…

The weather that existed for departure from London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) on Oct. 10, 2014, was moderate rain from a layer of stratus clouds with tops at 10,000 ft.
