Are you struggling to remove a nut that’s stuck on a bolt? Nuts and bolts are two of the world’s most commonly used fasteners. You can find them in furniture, machinery, building materials, automobiles, aircraft and more. Nuts and bolts feature opposing threads that allow them to join together. Nuts have a hole in the center lined with interior threads, whereas bolts are solid fasteners with external threads. You can twist a nut onto the end of a bolt to join two or more parts. Nuts can become stuck, however, in which case you may struggle to remove them. Use…
A couple of days ago, we learned how Lufthansa Group planned to announce some job cuts in the coming years. We now have more details as to what that will look like. Lufthansa will cut 20% of administrative jobs by 2030 Lufthansa Group has just announced plans to majorly cut its administrative workforce. The announcement came during the first company-wide capital markets day in six years, since before the pandemic. The airline plans to cut 4,000 jobs by 2030, representing roughly 20% of the administrative workforce. This announcement is expected to reassure investors about the company’s commitment to efficiency, which…
Virgin Australia is taking its onboard passenger experience to the next level with the launch of a seating concept that will allow passengers to bid for more elbow room. Dubbed as ‘Neighbour-Free Seating’ by the Australian carrier, the initiative has been launched as a result of responses to a travel survey. Indeed, when asked, a significant proportion of Australian passengers indicated that they would be willing to pay extra for the adjacent seat to remain empty on flights of certain lengths. As such, Virgin Australia has opened bidding on selected routes to generate more cash while giving its guests more…
Airbus launched the A340 in the early 1990s as a long-range widebody to serve intercontinental routes at a time when four engines were still viewed as a necessity. Despite its capability, the aircraft never achieved the commercial success of other Airbus or Boeing widebodies, with fewer than 400 built. The production of the type ended in 2011, and as airlines have increasingly turned to twinjets for efficiency, the A340 has been disappearing from fleets worldwide. Lufthansa has played a key role in the A340’s history. It was the first airline to fly the type in 1993 with the shorter A340-200,…
Emirates remains one of the world’s largest operators of the Boeing 777, and, in 2025, the twinjet continues to play a defining role in the carrier’s network. While the Airbus A380 often captures the spotlight as Emirates’ flagship, the 777 remains the workhorse of the airline. With its versatility, range, and reliability, the 777 serves destinations where the superjumbo would be either too large or operationally impractical. Today, Emirates operates multiple variants of the Triple-Seven for different routes and reasons. It flies the Boeing 777-200LR, Boeing 777F, and Boeing777-300ER, although the latter is by far the most prominent in its…
The Boeing 747 is one of the most iconic planes out there, and was the largest passenger aircraft in the world for a long time, until the Airbus A380 took the title. Its large size and passenger carrying capacity made the 747 profitable for airlines, flying the most dense hub-to-hub routes. After being introduced in January 1970, with Pan American World Airways as its launch customer, the 747 would go on to be manufactured until as recently as 2023, with a total of 1,574 examples produced. There was a time in history when Portugal leveraged its strategic geographical location, on the edge of the European landmass and facing the vast expanses of the Atlantic Ocean, to become the launchpad for what came to be known as the Era of Exploration. Fast forward six centuries and Portugal is ready to play this geographical card once again, this time to participate in a new chapter of the space era. Inspired by the disruptive successes of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, companies and governments around the world are scrambling to find faster and cheaper ways to send payloads into orbit. It is…
Airbus is currently guiding to a delivery ramp-up over the following quarter, while also looking to keep its full-year targets intact. The manufacturer is planning on producing around 820 commercial aircraft and has forecasts for around €7 billion in EBIT, generating around €4.5 billion in free cash flow. The current setup for the upcoming quarter involves increasing commercial deliveries due to engine shortages. The manufacturer’s successful Defense & Space business is also set to see continued growth over the next few months. The industry is under constant pressure to become more efficient and sustainable. Rising fuel costs and tighter environmental targets have pushed airlines to adopt innovations that cut fuel consumption without compromising performance. In response, manufacturers have introduced new-generation engines, lighter materials, and advanced aerodynamics to meet these demands. Winglets, those upward or split extensions at the wingtips, are another innovation that has become a standard feature. They reduce drag by weakening the vortices created at the tip of the wing, which in turn allows the aircraft to fly the same distance with less fuel. They are now standard on most…
ETOPS certification allows twin-engined aircraft to fly longer distances from the nearest diversion airport, opening up a wide range of long-haul and ultra-long-haul routes that were previously not viable, either operationally or financially. One aircraft in particular has been instrumental in driving ETOPS certification – the Boeing 777. Launch Customer(s) United Airlines Manufacturer Boeing Aircraft Type Widebody First Delivery May 15, 1995 Number Delivered 1,735 Production Sites Everett, Washington, United States In this article, we will take a look at the Boeing 777 – the aircraft that has operated the most ETOPS flights. We will also consider the concept of…
