Southwest Airlines has reported a net income of $54 million for the third quarter of 2025, delivering a “profitable quarter” and performing “better-than-anticipated”.  In its financial report released on October 22, 2025, Southwest noted that its Q3 unit revenues, costs, and net income all “exceeded its expectations”.  The company said that it saw a significant increase in demand starting in early July 2025, which continued throughout Q3 2025. On October 16th, a United Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 flying from Denver to Los Angeles had to make a dramatic diversion after a Foreign Object Debris (‘fod’) strike caused the aircraft’s windshield to crack. We constantly hear about close calls in aviation. I think it’s easy to become desensitized to these, and wonder which are actually dangerous, and which are just a bit too close for comfort. Roughly a month ago, there was one of the closest calls that we’ve seen in a long time, whereby two planes came within roughly 10 feet of one another on a runway, while one plane was landing.
