Aeronautical Engineers (AEI) has unveiled plans to launch the first Boeing 737-900 Extended Range Special Freighter (B737-900ERSF), following in the footsteps of the successful 737-800 freighter. On October 22, 2025, AEI, a passenger-to-freighter (P2F) aircraft conversion specialist, confirmed that the B737-900ERSF program had begun with the goal of introducing the largest narrowbody freighter to its fleet. Wizz Air is reportedly engaging in discussions with Airbus pertaining to the potential deferral of some of its forthcoming deliveries. The Hungarian carrier has outstanding orders for almost 300 narrowbody twinjets from the European planemaker, but its growth has stuttered in recent times. Airbus has forecasted that the global fleet of dedicated freighters is expected to increase by 45% to reach 3,420 aircraft over the next 20 years.  The prediction was part of the planemaker’s 2025 Cargo Global Market Forecast (GMF), released on October 22, 2025. The company said the figure will consist of 815 existing freighters and 2,605 additional ones.
