Shield AI has revealed a new artificial intelligence-driven uncrewed fighter capable of vertical takeoffs and landings that it says could represent the next generation of military combat aircraft and an advancement in the drone wingmen concept. The drone, dubbed X-BAT, was designed for expeditionary and maritime operations in contested environments. A scheduled Air New Zealand flight between Christchurch and Sydney was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday, October 24. The flight, operating at NZ211, experienced a hydraulic failure mid-flight, as the aircraft was halfway across the Tasman Sea. The light attack aircraft went down in a field for unknown reasons minutes after taking off for a training mission. An OA-1K Skyraider II of the U.S. Air Force had to perform a forced landing in a field near Oklahoma City on Oct. 23, 2025. The CEO of Airbus Defense & Space has indicated that the company is now in talks to sell 40 Eurofighter Typhoon models to Türkiye, and that these negotiations are in their final stages. The executive also added that Germany would not block the export of these mission systems.
