Let’s call it the painful price of keeping the airline alive. Since its takeover by Alaska Airlines Group, Hawaiian has seen its new owner slowly chip away at its identity. One big move in recent times was the announcement that the 787-9 Dreamliners operated by Hawaiian would be getting a new Alaska Airlines livery but the most recent news sees the elimination of the HA flight code. source
Modern aviation has diversified greatly and moved on from the hub-and-spoke model. Advances in small and mid-sized aircraft technology have made point-to-point services preferable for most passengers. As far as the Airbus A380 is concerned, the majority of runways and gates at the world’s airports are not large enough to accommodate this behemoth. As a result, most airlines are now moving away from this aircraft. Of the 15 total operating airlines, five have fully retired the jet from their fleets, while some still fly it as they await deliveries for other widebody planes. Others, such as British Airways, use it…
The oldest conversion organization, Aeronautical Engineers Inc. (AEI), unveils plans to convert Boeing-900ERs into freight jets in the coming years, as the company sees the market potential for a larger narrowbody freight aircraft. The Passenger-To-Freighter (P2F) program is backed by AEI’s success with the conversion of the smaller 737-800s. The proposed plan includes a multi-step process, across a period of four years, during which time the organization aims to get the converted aircraft types certified in the US, Europe, and China. American Airlines is the latest airline to relaunch services to Israel, with the oneworld carrier set to resume services between New York and Tel Aviv from March 2026. The Fort-Worth-based carrier isn’t stopping there, with additional plans including a potential addition of non-stop flights from Los Angeles to Ahuzat Bayit (the Hebrew name for Tel Aviv). While the airline has not set a date for the LA route, American Airlines fans will be able to fly non-stop to Ben Gurion Airport by Spring 2026. The carrier made the decision recently, following a meeting with Israeli Minister of Transport, National Infrastructure,…
Air Canada has announced the unfortunate elimination of around 400 management positions, roughly 1% of its workforce, as part of a broader cost-reduction and restructuring plan. As reported by Yahoo News, the airline emphasises that the cuts are unrelated to the recent strike by its flight attendants, which significantly disrupted operations and increased operating costs in August. The timing of this workforce reduction has drawn attention because it follows a labor dispute in which over 10,000 flight attendants walked out, triggering massive cancellations and a financial hit estimated at $270 million USD. But as per Air Canada, the job cuts…
The US spans the width of the North American continent, with many of its busiest cities lining opposing coasts, making transcontinental air bridges vital arteries of travel. In 2025, the global aviation market is experiencing a boom in renewed air travel demand as the lingering impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is finally shaking off. All those flyers who lost their chance during the lockdown are flocking to airports now. A major area of the US domestic market that has boomed back into high demand is coast-to-coast flying routes. Airlines have rushed to increase capacity in the years following the end…
Boeing remains one of the world’s two dominant commercial aircraft manufacturers, sharing the stage with Europe’s Airbus. Its annual aircraft output is more than just a statistic: it’s a reflection of industrial capability, financial stability, and global airline demand. The number of jets Boeing produces each year offers insight into the company’s production efficiency, supply chain resilience, and its ability to recover from crises that have shaken the aerospace industry in recent years. Determining how many aircraft Boeing produces annually is not as straightforward as it sounds. Production and delivery figures are not identical, and communications tend to focus on…
In the Summer of 2025, United Airlines (UA) and Neste brought sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to these three airports for the first time: Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey, and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington, DC. The partnership represents the first time that any airline has operated to the three hubs, flying on SAF. The new locations build on the successful SAF operations at Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) where Neste have been supplying UA since last year. The term of the…
The commercial aviation industry has undergone a significant number of changes over the years. Since the 1950s, when airlines around the world helped to usher in the jet age of the industry, commercial aviation has changed drastically. The introduction of early jet airliners, such as the Douglas DC-8 and the Boeing 707, helped to revolutionize long-haul travel. Additionally, the introduction of widebody airliners, such as the Boeing 747, helped global airlines to begin transporting a high number of passengers across various routes. As a result, demand for air travel has been increasing steadily since the mid-to-late 20th century. Newer and…
For the everyday traveler, the company name Navitaire may not sound familiar. But for many airlines, especially low-cost and hybrid carriers, Navitaire, an Amadeus company, provides key products and services that have helped modernize operations, with a strong focus on the cloud and AI. When travelers book a fare on a Low-Cost Carrier(LCC), there’s likely a Navitaire program at work behind the scenes, making that process as quick and efficient as possible. Navitaire hosted its annual Customer Conference October 14-16 in Las Vegas, and for the first time in the event’s 20-plus-year history, media were invited to participate. The conference…
