Boeing has finalized the sale of key assets from its Digital Aviation Solutions division to private equity firm Thoma Bravo in an all-cash transaction valued at $10.55 billion. This divestiture encompasses notable brands, including Jeppesen, ForeFlight, AerData, and OzRunways. The transaction, initially announced in April, has now been completed following the necessary regulatory approvals, as confirmed by Thoma Bravo in a statement released earlier today. The acquired businesses will operate under the name Jeppesen ForeFlight, an independent company with headquarters in Denver and San Francisco. Boeing officials said that the transaction will enhance the company’s capital structure and enable the…
The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday heard arguments in a case against a military contractor whose employee killed five people and injured 17 at Bagram Air Base, Afghanistan, in 2016.The majority of justices seemed skeptical that the case, brought against Fluor Corp., was an exception to previous lawsuits filed against defense contractors, which typically have immunity in litigation generated by their involvement in wartime service. In the case Hencely v. Fluor, former Army Spec. Winston Hencely argued that Fluor should be liable under state law for failing to supervise an employee who carried out a suicide bomb attack that killed three…
Aircraft names are typically a sterile combination of letters and numbers with little consideration for public perception. Boeing jets, however, have names that differentiate their planes in the public eye. Each one’s name starts and ends with a seven, while the 787 is also named the Dreamliner, and the current generation of the 737 is called the MAX. In the public eye, the recognizable names build recognition with the average traveler, enhancing brand knowledge. Currently, Boeing sells the 737 MAX, the 767 (767-300F and 767-2C only), the 777X, and the 787 Dreamliner, and it has also produced the 707, the…
We recently saw the opening of the new Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, located at the very top of the Merdeka 118 building, which is the tallest hotel in all of Asia-Pacific (by my math, it’s the world’s second highest hotel). This is easily my favorite Hyatt property I’ve ever stayed at, as there’s just so much to love about this hotel, from the design, to the height, to the amenities, to the food and beverage outlets, to the service. If I didn’t have a family, I might just stay here forever and never go home. As a hotel and hospitality geek,…

The Boeing 777 is one of the world’s most versatile widebody twinjet airliners, with carriers across the globe able to put it to use either on premium-heavy ultra-long-haul routes or to provide extra capacity on higher-density sectors. In the former category, data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, shows that four airlines currently fly the type to the US on routes of 8,000+ miles. These sectors originate in Asia and the Middle East, and connect these regions with destinations on both the East Coast and the West Coast of the United States of America, and, indeed, in between as well.…
