By Colleen Mondor Nov. 4, 2025, © Leeham News: The US Air Traffic Control (ATC) system is melting down as the US federal government shutdown takes its toll on an already overstressed, understaffed, underfunded, antiquated system. A deadly mid-air collision on Jan. 29 this year, several near-collisions between airliners on the ground, and system slowdowns plague the ATC system. In the past few months, there has been a flurry of announcements from the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the FAA concerning plans to upgrade and modernize the ATC system. The new system, which, according to Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy,…
Prague Airport recently announced on X that a new route is on the horizon, which will connect the Czech capital to Sanya, the southernmost city on Hainan Island in China. And it might surprise some to learn which airline is starting the route, a lesser-known Kazakh carrier, SCAT Airlines. The airline has been flying across Kazakhstan and Central Asia since 1997 and is one of the country’s oldest active carriers. Over the years, it has grown steadily, expanding beyond domestic routes to several destinations across Central Asia. Its main base is at Shymkent Airport, with additional operations from Aktau, Nursultan,…
American Airlines has decided to return to its roots, applying an iconic livery, inspired by its first Douglas DC-3 from 1936, to mark the airline’s 100-year history. The livery celebrates the airline’s rich history and memorializes its original ‘flagship’ logo by applying it to the aircraft best-suited to bear such a title, the Boeing 777-300ER. The design itself instantly invokes emotion and memories for aviation enthusiasts and travelers, reimagining the polished metallic finish and classic logos that once defined American’s identity for decades. What inspired this nostalgic design? How does it connect to the airline’s heritage, and why do such…
Airbus has been consistently outperforming its rival Boeing in 2025 but is still struggling to achieve its own goal of delivering 820 aircraft by the end of the year. The October delivery total of 78 aircraft does not bode well for the aerospace juggernaut’s chances of hitting its target. It was Bloomberg that reported the latest production output, putting Airbus at 585 total deliveries so far this year. That leaves the manufacturer 235 short of the goal, meaning that it will need to deliver 118 planes in November and December to achieve 820 total. Shifting Target Sights Credit: Airbus Airbus has…
Those traveling through one of Texas’s biggest airports, Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport, face long lines for airport security. Due to the federal government shutdown, this has impacted Transportation Security Administration (TSA) staffing across the country. This has led to lines up to three hours long snaking their way to outside of the terminal. Currently, only TSA checkpoints at IAH’s Terminal A and E are operational, meaning that those looking to travel with United from Terminal C are required to check their baggage and then proceed to Terminal E for security screening. Not surprisingly, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) retains its title as the world’s busiest airport in 2025. The airport has held this position since 1998, except for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to OAG data, ATL had roughly 5.4 million scheduled passenger seats in October 2025. This figure leads its competition ( Dubai International Airport) by 1.4%, which has been slowly closing the gap with Hartsfield-Jackson over the past few years. Interestingly, despite being the busiest airport by passenger volume, ATL does not rank among the top 10 airports by land area, either globally or within the United…

In the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Melissa’s landfall in Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 storm, the aviation community has mobilized to deliver critical relief supplies and restore vital air travel links, stepping in while commercial operations remain disrupted. Melissa struck the island on October 28, 2025, packing sustained winds of an estimated 185 mph and leaving widespread destruction in its wake. More than half a million residents were reported without power, communications were severely degraded, and major airport infrastructure suffered significant damage. In response, the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) activated its Humanitarian Emergency Response Operator (HERO) database, a platform designed to pair business aviation operators with humanitarian relief…
