Back in 2012, Delta Air Lines became the first major US airline to introduce basic economy fares. In this post, I’d like to go over the details of the SkyTeam carrier’s most restrictive ticket types. What restrictions are there when booking basic economy fares, and are these tickets worth it? Let’s go over all the details. Separately, I’ve covered similar fares offered by Alaska, American, JetBlue, and United. What is basic economy, and why does it exist?Basic economy was introduced many years back as a way for major US airlines to better compete with ultra low cost carriers, like Allegiant,…
The Boeing 777 family is one of the most popular widebodies and is the backbone of long-haul air travel. Its range, capacity, and comfort have made it a favorite among global airlines since its introduction to commercial service in 1995, especially on the longest nonstop routes connecting far-flung continents. In December 2025, multiple 777 services span distances in excess of 8,000 miles, according to the data from Cirium, an aviation analytics company, all connecting the US with distant countries in Asia, and each offering high-end business-class products that command premium pricing. Planning a long-haul business-class journey isn’t just about picking…
Virgin Atlantic Flying Club is an underrated program that offers all kinds of useful redemption opportunities. In particular, the program has some of my favorite niche, sweet spot award deals in the world. Virgin Atlantic joined SkyTeam in 2023, greatly expanding the opportunities to redeem points through the program. On top of that, Flying Club also has some other individual partners with attractive redemption values. Best of all, Virgin Atlantic points are easy to come by, which is one of the main reasons people should care about the program. In this post, I’d like to take a closer look at how…
Fuel efficiency has become one of the defining factors in modern commercial aviation, and the Boeing 777X sits right at the center of that conversation. As airlines look to cut operating costs while reducing their environmental footprint, Boeing’s latest widebody promises meaningful improvements over its predecessors. In this article, we take a closer look at how much more fuel-efficient the Boeing 777X is compared with its predecessor, the Boeing 777-300ER. We will also explore the wider impact of the 777X program on commercial aviation and examine when the long-delayed aircraft is expected to finally enter service. 10% Greater Fuel Efficiency…

American Airlines has begun operating new Boeing 787-9s in a new premium configuration and updated seats, and shortly after the planes entered service in spring 2025, United Airlines announced new interiors for future 787 deliveries. The first example is set to be delivered by year’s end and will enter service in early 2026. Not only will these aircraft come with new seats, but they will also be configured in a more premium layout. The new interiors will be the future standard for both airlines. Two of America’s largest airlines are configuring Boeing 787-9s in a new premium-heavy layout, and United’s…
During our Good Morning Milan, Goodnight Moon trip, my dad and I flew Air Dolomiti economy from Milan (LIN) to Frankfurt (FRA). I redeemed points at the last minute, as this was the most convenient flight, and there was no business class award availability. For those not familiar, Air Dolomiti is the Italian Lufthansa Group airline that operates Embraers, primarily on behalf of Lufthansa. It’s not to be confused with ITA Airways, which is now also part of the Lufthansa Group. I won’t be fully reviewing this hour-long flight, since you can imagine what the experience was like. We got on…
The McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was the most mass-produced supersonic fighter jet ever flown in the history of the United States of America. It was originally procured by the US Navy, but later went on to be the primary fighter platform for the US Air Force and the US Marine Corps. When the last example, an F-4EJ, rolled off the line at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan, the grand total came to 5,195 produced. The last Phantom in service in the United States was retired in 1997, but to this day, a handful of examples remain airworthy and in…
American Airlines is, without a doubt, one of the world’s largest airlines. Looking at the carrier’s numbers in 2024, it was the third-largest airline in the world in terms of revenue, the number two in available seat miles (ASMs), and the absolute number one in terms of passengers carried. The second-largest airline by passenger numbers, Delta Air Lines had 25 million fewer annual passengers compared to American. But, perhaps even more interesting is the fact that United Airlines leads in terms of ASMs but is only the fourth largest in terms of passengers carried, clearly illustrating that American operates more…
