In March 2022, Air Canada placed an order for Airbus’ new long range narrow body jet. A little over four years later, there’s now an exciting update, as the airline has just taken delivery of its first of these aircraft. Let’s go over all the details, and what this plane means for the Star Alliance carrier. Air Canada has 30 Airbus A321XLRs on orderAir Canada is acquiring 30 Airbus A321XLR aircraft — 15 of these planes are being purchased, while 15 are being leased. The first of these aircraft has just been delivered, and fittingly, it has the registration code…
Air Canada took delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR on April 24, 2026, during a ceremony at the manufacturer’s Hamburg facility, thereby becoming the first Canadian operator of the extended-range narrowbody. The aircraft, registered C-GXLR, is the first of 30 A321XLRs that Air Canada is set to receive over the coming years. Of those, 15 will be leased and 15 acquired directly from Airbus. The first unit is on lease from SMBC Aviation Capital, which will supply the full leased portion of the order. Following Transport Canada certification, Air Canada plans to phase the aircraft into transatlantic services from Montreal and Toronto as well as transcontinental routes across North America. The carrier previously confirmed Montreal to Palma de Mallorca…
We know that as of May 20, 2026, World of Hyatt is completely overhauling award pricing, by introducing a new five tier award chart (compared to the current three tiers). On the high end, this has the potential to be awful. However, that’s not the only change happening as of that date. World of Hyatt has also just revealed hotel category adjustments for 2026, impacting which hotels are in which categories (and in turn, impacting how many points are required for free night redemptions). This is something that Hyatt does annually, and it’s separate from the overall award chart changes.…
As the USAF confirms its intent to buy more F-15EX Eagle IIs, Senators Budd and Shaheen have launched three new bills designed to expand the U.S. fighter inventory and retain experienced pilots. New plans from the U.S. Air Force boosting their order of F-15EX Eagle II fighters to as many as 267 aircraft may not be the last we hear of this program expanding, at least not if several members of the U.S. Senate achieve their aims. Just after the Pentagon revealed its $1.5 trillion budget request for FY2027, its largest ever, U.S. Senators Ted Budd (Republican, North Carolina) and…
ST Engineering is paving the way for the next generation of drone innovations, and the engineering company chose the Singapore Airshow 2026 to demonstrate that claim. At the media preview on February 3, 2026, the Singaporean aerospace and defense giant officially unveiled the DrN-600, a medium-lift cargo drone with an eight-meter wingspan and a maximum takeoff weight just under 600 kilograms. It is, by a comfortable margin, the largest unmanned aircraft the company has ever built, and it marks a turning point not just for ST Engineering but for Singapore’s broader push into autonomous air logistics. The unveiling carried weight beyond…
For quite some time now, there have been rumors that United Airlines might be interested in buying JetBlue Airways. In March 2025, United CEO Scott Kirby even said that “JetBlue is the obvious candidate” for consolidation, and that “the ball is going to be in JetBlue’s court” when it comes to whether or not some sort of a deal happens. The common wisdom has been that the reason that United hasn’t made a bid for JetBlue is due to concerns over regulatory approval. The two airlines launched a partnership last year, and it seemed like a “foot in the door”…
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has published a preliminary report into the fatal collision of a landing Air Canada Express and a fire truck at New York’s LaGuardia Airport (LGA). The two pilots lost their lives during the incident on March 22, 2026. Despite the destruction of all those onboard, the fire truck survived. While the preliminary report describes the early findings of the NTSB investigators, it is only publication of the final report that will fully conclude the investigation. According to the NTSB, during the evening of the crash, a total of six Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF)…
Russia will add European countries hosting French nuclear-capable Rafale to its list of priority targets in a major conflict, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on April 23, 2026, in the sharpest Kremlin response yet to Emmanuel Macron’s “forward deterrence” doctrine. Grushko made the comments in an interview with Russian state media, three days after Macron and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced in Gdansk on April 20, 2026, that Warsaw would join the group of European capitals discussing joint exercises and possible future deployments of French nuclear-capable Rafale fighter jets. A response to Gdansk In Gdansk, the French and Polish leaders said the agenda between Paris and…
On April 24, 2026, Ryanair announced that it is to close its base at Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport (BER), effective October 24, 2026. The Irish low-cost airline will relocate seven aircraft to its other bases throughout Europe, particularly those countries that have recently reduced taxes and charges for air operators, such as Sweden, Italy, Albania and Slovakia. In a press conference held in the German capital, Ryanair’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Eddie Wilson and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) Jason McGuiness blamed cost increases at Berlin-Brandenburg for this decision. A 10% increase in airport fees at the German capital’s airport for the…
We’ve seen a lot of airline executives make questionable claims in recent times, though this takes the cake… Air Peace CEO says he often flies solo on Boeing 777 Allen Onyema is the CEO of Nigerian airline Air Peace, which has a questionable safety record (more on that in a bit). In a recent interview, Onyema talked about his rather unusual flying habits: Since Air Peace was founded in 2014, he has never flown on any other airline Even if he needs to go somewhere like Brazil or the Caribbean, he’ll take a Boeing 777 from his carrier’s fleet, which…
