Dubai International Airport (DXB) reported minor damage to part of a passenger concourse and four injuries after what local officials described as an “incident,” as Iranian missile and drone strikes spread beyond US targets and into key Gulf transport hubs. Dubai Airports said a concourse at DXB “sustained minor damage” in an incident that was “quickly contained,” adding that emergency response teams were deployed and were coordinating with relevant authorities. Dubai’s media office said four airport staff were injured and received medical attention. Local officials did not provide further details on what caused the incident. Videos circulated online overnight appeared…
Well this is going to have some major impacts on the battle we’re currently seeing at Chicago O’Hare Airport (ORD), between American and United…. Chicago O’Hare flights will be reduced by 10% this summer At the moment, both American and United are adding a lot of capacity in Chicago, and this is part of a battle between the two companies. Both airlines have a hub in Chicago, but United has taken the lead (by far) in recent years, and now American is trying to regain some market share. So in reality, we’re just seeing a lot of capacity dumping in…
If you’re scheduled to travel internationally in the coming days, especially through the Middle East, this could very well impact you… Middle East flight cancellations & airspace closures The United States and Israel have launched an attack on Iran. President Trump describes this as a “major combat operation” with the objective of eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime, “a vicious group of very hard, terrible people.” Trump has urged the Iranian regime to “lay down” weapons or “face certain death,” and has called it their “only chance for generations.” He has also encouraged the people of Iran to “take…
Several months ago, Qantas started taking delivery of the Airbus A321XLR, a plane that the airline is using in a somewhat unusual way. Qantas is primarily intending for this plane to be used for domestic operations, to replace the Boeing 737-800. However, the airline is now already scheduling this aircraft on one rather long international flight, and I can’t imagine travelers will be happy about this. Qantas Airbus A321XLR will fly from Brisbane to Manila As of October 25, 2026, Qantas intends to operate daily nonstop flights between Brisbane (BNE) and Manila (MNL) on the Airbus A321XLR. Up until that…
Link: Save 25% on a point.me subscription by using code OMAAT4 Every so often, I think it makes sense to talk a bit about the tools and services that I most use for managing, earning, and redeeming points. While I often mention these websites and services in passing, I think there’s also merit to writing dedicated posts about them sometimes. In this post, I’d like to talk about how and why I use point.me, which is a tool that makes booking award flights easy. This is one of many tools I use when planning travel, along with things like Google Flights,…
Online shopping portals can be a great way to pick up miles & points for purchases you’d make anyway. Just for following a specific link, you can earn bonus points or cash back in addition to the rewards you’d earn for credit card spending.Sometimes companies really want you to buy products from them, to the point that it can make sense to purchase something through an online shopping portal even if you don’t actually have a use for it. Along those lines, there are a couple such promotions available right now, which I think are worth taking advantage of.I covered a…

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far, and that those in the Middle East and beyond stay safe. I’m at home with family with no travel planned for the next couple of weeks (but then I have an exciting, and very different kind of trip). I promise this will be the week where I will make good progress on my old trip report, as I’m way behind there… oops. On the points & travel front, this week Qantas announced a new route to Las Vegas, Miami Airport unveiled an expansion to American’s terminal, World of Hyatt revealed…
It has been an absolutely wild day for aviation (and world events more broadly), as the United States and Israel have attacked Iran, and Iran has retaliated, by sending drones and missiles to some nearby countries with US military bases. This has caused a huge number of flight cancelations and airspace closures, particularly impacting Gulf carriers. Well, here’s perhaps the most direct impact we’ve seen on aviation so far… Dubai Airport Terminal 3 struck by Iranian drone While details remain fairly limited, an Iranian drone has struck Dubai International Airport Terminal 3, causing significant damage, and also some injuries. So…
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, has been killed during the strikes in Iran, according to both Israel and the U.S. Following the strikes on Iran’s territory on Feb. 28, 2026, Israel and the U.S. are now saying that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, is dead. Khamenei’s compound in Tehran was struck by up to 30 bombs, according to some reports, with satellite photo showing several destroyed buildings. Iran’s Supreme Leader targeted in strikes Israeli sources initially stated that Khamenei is “almost certainly dead,” with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later saying there are many signs that Khamenei is “no longer with…
