For the fourth hotel stay of my Iceland to The Residence via Cambodia trip, I spent one night at the Courtyard by Marriott Reykjavik Keflavik Airport, a 150-room property that opened in 2020, located near the country’s major airport. I was alone on this stay — after an awesome five nights in Iceland, Ford had taken an evening flight back home, and I had an early flight the following morning to continue my review trip, so there was value in staying near the airport. Ultimately the Courtyard by Marriott is a perfectly pleasant hotel that’s in line with what you’d expect…
The first production representative MQ-25 taxied under its own power at Boeing’s facilities, following a series of rigorous ground trials over several months. Boeing and the U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) announced on Jan. 30, 2026, that the production representative prototype of the MQ-25 Stingray unmanned refueling tanker has started taxi trials at MidAmerica Airport near St. Louis, Missouri, home of Boeing’s production facility. This is one of nine Stingrays that Boeing is building for the Navy “to be put through static, fatigue and flight tests to ensure durability and airworthiness,” said the company on Sep. 14, 2023,…

The Type 076 is moving rapidly towards becoming the first ship with an EMALS catapult to operate combat drones, with the GJ-21 possibly being prepared for testing. China’s Type 076 Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD) was recently spotted with a fully covered collaborative combat aircraft/unmanned combat aerial vehicle (CCA/UCAV) in visuals that appeared on Jan. 31, 2026. Observers and analysts believe this is a mock-up of the GJ-21 naval UCAV. The ship is also captured in a video while being pushed into open waters by tugboats at the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard in Shanghai, suggesting it might be slated for its second round…
For a few years now, regulators in the United States have been proposing a common sense change that would make it easier to investigate aircraft incidents and accidents (and in turn, make flying safer). While there has been quite a bit of pushback from pilots, there’s some good news, as this change will finally be implemented. Cockpit voice recorder will start recording 12.5x longer One of the reasons that aviation is so safe is because we learn so much from every incident, to prevent something similar from happening in the future. This is largely thanks to flight data recorders (which…
While go arounds happen all the time, here’s an interaction you don’t often hear… United Express CRJ-700 blames go around on United 777 Airline Videos Live has both video and air traffic control communication of an unusual interaction that happened shortly after 12PM on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Specifically, a United Express Bombardier CRJ-700 operated by SkyWest was coming in to land after a short flight from Reno (RNO) as UA5899. At the last minute, the pilots performed a go around, which isn’t unusual as such. As the plane was climbing out, the air…
I’ve written broadly about my hotel pet peeves, as we all have our own preferences when staying at hotels. Regardless of whether we’re talking about luxury or limited service hotels, I appreciate a functional and well designed bathroom. There are certain hotel bathroom design choices that drive me bonkers, and leave me scratching my head. Along those lines, there was recently a national story about how hotel bathroom design keeps getting worse. I’d like to talk about that a bit, and then share the hotel bathroom design choices that frustrate me the most. Are hotels cutting costs on bathroom privacy?Big…
In early 2024, Delta Air Lines placed an order for the Airbus A350-1000, after years of rumors. While there has been a delay in these deliveries, we’re potentially just over a year from the first of these planes being delivered. In light of all the developments that we’ve seen since then (both at Delta and at competitors), I’d like to take an updated look at what we can expect. Delta has 20 Airbus A350-1000s on order In January 2024, Delta announced a firm order for 20 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, with additional options. While the initial plan was for these planes…
I hope everyone is having a nice weekend so far! I’ll shortly be embarking on an adventure to Asia, which I’m excited about, even if I still have to figure out my plan for the return. Either way, expect lots of live updates, plus a continuation of the trip report I’ve been publishing from Iceland and beyond. On the points & travel front, this week American announced plans to resume flights to Venezuela, United revealed plans to introduce premium A321neos for transcontinental flights, Etihad added flights to Calgary, Aer Lingus officially canceled Manchester transatlantic flights, Lufthansa unveiled its new A380…
