In 2019, British Airways introduced an all-new business class product, which represents a massive improvement compared to the carrier’s previous product. As is often the case when airlines introduce new business class seats, the challenge is actually getting a plane featuring those seats (Lufthansa can tell you all about it!). While the airline had at the time outlined a rollout schedule for this new product, as you’d expect, the pandemic delayed things a bit. So in this post, I’d like to take a look at the current state of British Airways’ Club Suites rollout. What are British Airways Club Suites?…
Pilots go through the same bumpy turbulence as passengers, but they see it in a completely different way. They spend hundreds of hours learning exactly how much motion an airliner can safely absorb in classrooms, simulators, and small aircraft, long before they ever carry passengers. Manufacturers subject the aircraft to artificial gusts that are far rougher than actual weather, bend the wings until they break, and slam them down as part of certification testing. Pilots and air traffic control have technology to predict the beginning and end of rough air using real-time radar, satellite imagery, and ride reports from other…

BERLIN — European defense ministers will convene next week and discuss specifics of a planned “drone wall” meant to protect the continent from incursions of its airspace coming from Russia, Reuters reported on Thursday. The initiative gained a sense of urgency following the violation of Polish airspace by Russian strike drones last week, which left at least one house damaged. “We want really to move ahead with very, very intensive and effective preparations to start to fill this gap, which is really very dangerous for us… as quickly as we can do it,” EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius, who is Lithuanian,…
The aircraft is similar to another concept model revealed during the 2018 Singapore Air Show, called the Star Shadow, which was developed with an unspecified Chinese institution. A new flying wing type UAV has emerged in China’s northeastern city of Changchun, in the run up to the air show expected to kick off on Sep. 19, 2025. The aircraft bears the logo and markings of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). While its designation and identity remain unknown, one angle shows the letters KZ-2 on the port-side wing. It is not known, however, whether this is its official designation. Some…
You can ignore the head style when shopping for airframe bolts. Most airplanes use thousands or even hundreds of thousands of bolts in their construction. Along with rivets, airframe bolts are one of the most common. They are designed to hold structures together. Airframe bolts, however, are available in several different head styles, including the following. Hex Hex head airframe bolts are characterized by a hexagonal head. They feature a solid head with six equally spaced sides. You can tighten or loosen hex head airframe bolts using a standard wrench or socket. The wrench or socket will fit over the…

By Chris Sloan Sept. 17, 2025, © Leeham News: At the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Global Aerospace Summit, Tom O’Leary, CEO and Co-Founder of JetZero, made clear that his company is bringing something different to commercial aviation: a Silicon Valley ethos. JetZero, founded in Long Beach (CA) in 2021, is applying the speed and risk tolerance of the tech world to one of the most conservative corners of industry — airliner design. O’Leary, who cut his teeth as Director of Sales and Marketing at Tesla and later served as COO at eVTOL startup BETA Technologies, is no stranger to disruption.…
