Before I get into this, let me say that this is more of a personal post, so if you’re simply here for travel content, please skip this post (though there’s a travel angle). I’ve been blogging for well over 17 years, and I’ve shared my highs and lows here. In recent years, Ford and I have had some highs, with the birth of our two healthy sons, who make us smile every day.But unfortunately it’s time to share a (selfish) low. The day I’ve been dreading for well over six years is finally here — my mom’s battle with cancer…
As hard as it might be to believe it, Singapore Airlines has lost the crown as the operator of the world’s longest nonstop passenger flight. In its place is the little-discussed Chinese carrier Xiamen Air, whose service from New York JFK back to Fuzhou is blocked at 19h 20m. While this is not a new route (it operated between 2017 and 2020 and returned in 2024), it seems to be the first time the block time has been that high. Obviously, the airport pair is very long on a great circle distance basis, which measures the shortest distance between two…
KLM has installed the first Airbus A350 flight simulator to be based in the Netherlands, as the airline gears up for the aircraft’s launch in 2026. On October 3, 2025, the airline confirmed that the advanced simulator is now ready to use, with the first A350 pilots expected to begin training shortly. In 2023, the Air France-KLM Group announced an order for 50 Airbus A350 aircraft, comprised of both A350-900s and A350-1000s aircraft, accompanied by options for an additional 40 units. At the time, Air France-KLM CEO Benjamin Smith said: “This new order will be a major step in the…

We didn’t get a chance to report on this news as it was happening but some of you MAY be aware of the coffee drama that took place with British Airways and its employees earlier in September. The oneworld alliance member had introduced a policy instructing employees to only drink water “discreetly” in public while wearing their uniform – effectively banning all other beverages. source

In parallel, the Royal Danish Navy has sent the frigate Niels Juel to patrol the Baltic. Equipped with long-range radars and an embarked MH-60R Seahawk helicopter, the vessel will enhance NATO’s maritime surveillance capabilities and integrate into the broader allied…
During the jet’s last few years at Delta Air Lines, the Boeing 747 enjoyed a brief spurt of renewed popularity. Av geeks and flyers actively sought it out, knowing they were catching the last chance to ride the “Queen of the Skies” before it disappeared from US passenger service. Whenever the airline announced a final routing or a domestic farewell tour, seats were in high demand, and the final flight from Detroit to Seoul in December 2017 departed completely full. From a business standpoint, the aircraft was still attracting healthy passenger loads and brought in profitable belly cargo on transoceanic…
