Vietnam Airlines has released plans to take on up to 30 Airbus A350-900 or Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft in an official invitation to the aviation market.

On September 22, 2025, addressing those “who it may concern,” Vietnam Airlines declared that it was looking to add multiple widebody jets to its fleet, for delivery between 2028 and 2030.

The airline said that it was open to “all available options,” whether through “purchase, lease, sublease or any other arrangement”.

Prospective partners have been asked to contact Vietnam Airlines with their proposals by October 8, 2025.

In the document, Vietnam Airlines wrote: “Interested parties are invited to provide some general information such as the number of aircraft offered, aircraft type, delivery schedule, LOPA, and indicative commercial terms – if available, such as purchased price/lease rate, etc.”

The invitation was signed by the airline’s Deputy Director Huynh Thanh Lan, Deputy General Manager Nguyen Thu Phuong, and Executive Vu Ngoc Chau My.

Previously, Vietnam Airlines has discussed a fleet-building strategy for the next decade, with the aim of significantly bolstering its operational capabilities by 2040.

In April 2025, the airline secured the backing of Vietcombank with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to purchase 50 narrowbody aircraft.

Around the same time, the carrier also signed an MoU with CitiBank for $560 million to go towards its fleet expansion plans.

According to ch-aviation, Vietnam Airlines currently operates a fleet of Airbus A320neos, A321neos, A321-200s, A350-900s and Boeing 787-s and Boeing 787-10s.

The airline is currently awaiting delivery of two Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners.
