Also: AEA Keynote, WWII Aircraft Recovery, Air Canda Nixes Cuba, UK SR20 Crash SpaceX has told investors it plans to shift its priority to going to the moon instead of Mars and targets March 2027 for a lunar landing without humans on board. This will be the first step in what founder Elon Musk says will be a "self-growing" city on the moon. The company says Mars will come later, as it focuses on putting Musk’s rocket company and his startup artificial intelligence company together. United Airlines is in the middle of an intense legal dispute with an FAA safety inspector who received a lifetime ban after he allegedly reported safety concerns while onboard as a passenger. If the carrier loses, its actions could cost it upwards of $12 million. The DOT Inspector General has launched an audit of the FAA Controller Training Academy in Oklahoma City to reviews delays in training enough air traffic controllers. The DOT memorandum says the academy is facing considerable challenges with training, including a shortage of qualified instructors, training-capacity limitations, an outdated curriculum, and high training failure rates.
