Lufthansa Group moves to calm summer travel jitters around fuel supply

Lufthansa Group is taking steps to calm passenger summer travel jitters around fuel supply, insisting that there are no shortages and travelers should book with confidence.

On May 27, 2026, Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of the Lufthansa Group, sprang into action to reassure nervous flyers that “there are no signs from our suppliers that fuel supply will be at risk this summer”.

Vranckx explained that just under a quarter of jet fuel shipments destined for Europe to transition through the Strait of Hormuz and any shortfalls have been compensated for.

“Imports are now increasingly reaching us from other continents — for example from North America and Africa,” Vranckx said. “In addition, European refineries have ramped up their jet fuel production to maximum capacity.”

Asked if everyone can safely book their summer holiday, Vranckx responded: “Absolutely – fuel supply is stable so summer’s good to go.”

The Lufthansa Group executive emphasized that should a flight be cancelled, the full ticket price will be refunded promptly upon the customer’s request.

“We are not alone, incidentally, in our assessment that customers can look forward to a comprehensive flight offering this summer: our partner airlines are also planning to operate with a near-complete flight schedule during this year’s peak season. Precisely because demand for air travel around the globe remains consistently strong,” Vranckx said.

He added: “I say this with full conviction: our airlines are ready for summer, our network is strong — our customers can rely on us.”

Lufthansa Group highlighted that all six of its European hubs, including Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Brussels, and Rome, as well as abroad, were showing no risk of fuel shortages this summer.
