Airborne 05.22.26: FAA/NTSB v ADS-B Fees, Oshkosh NOTAM, Castro Indicted

Also: Air Tractor Shooting Update, Dulles Bucks, Ebola Diversion FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said during a Senate Aviation Subcommittee hearing this week that the practice of airports using ADS-B data to charge fees to pilots is opposed by the FAA. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy, commented at an earlier Senate Commerce Committee hearing that the use of ADS-B for economic gain “should be prohibited.” Pilots can now download the Federal Aviation Administration-released EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026 Notice (commonly referred to as the Oshkosh NOTAM), featuring arrival and departure procedures for the Experimental Aircraft Association’s 73rd fly-in convention on July 20-26 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. The document is required reading for Oshkosh-bound pilots. The United States Department of Justice has unsealed a superseding indictment charging former Cuban leader and five alleged co defendants in connection with the 1996 shootdown of two civilian aircraft. The aircraft, both unarmed Cessna airplanes, were flying humanitarian missions over the Florida Straits on Feb. 24, 1996, when Cuban military fighters allegedly intercepted and destroyed them in international airspace.
