The United States Department of Justice has unsealed a superseding indictment charging former Cuban leader and five alleged co defendants in connection with the 1996 shootdown of two civilian aircraft. The aircraft, both unarmed Cessna airplanes, were flying humanitarian missions over the Florida Straits on Feb. 24, 1996, when Cuban military fighters allegedly intercepted and destroyed them in international airspace.
