LOT Polish Airlines Rolling Out Viasat Inflight Wi-Fi On Boeing 787 Fleet

In 2023, LOT Polish Airlines announced plans to introduce all-new cabins on its Boeing 787s, the only aircraft in its wide body fleet (with both the 787-8 and 787-9 variants). This includes a new business class with direct aisle access, and more. The first of these planes is expected to be reconfigured in the second half of 2026, though even ahead of that, there’s a positive update.

LOT Polish Airlines introducing Wi-Fi on Boeing 787s

LOT Polish Airlines has announced that it has started the process of gradually rolling out Wi-Fi on its Dreamliner fleet. The first Boeing 787-9, with the registration code SP-LSA, has just been equipped with the service. Two more aircraft are expected to have the service by the end of April 2026.

It’s not clear when the project will be completed, but the airline has a fleet of 15 Dreamliners, so it shouldn’t take that long, assuming they’re not waiting for heavy maintenance checks, or something.

This is all great news, because initially I was under the impression that the planes would get Wi-Fi at the same time that they get new cabins. But clearly that’s not the case, and the Wi-Fi is happening before the new cabins.

LOT Polish Airlines partners with Viasat for paid service

LOT Polish Airlines is partnering with Viasat on its new inflight connectivity, which offers among the better connectivity in the sky.

Unfortunately LOT won’t be offering Wi-Fi for free for most passengers. Instead, there will be two packages — a $7 chat pass that allows instant messaging, plus a $29 streaming pass that allows full internet use without data caps. Complimentary Wi-Fi is also available for business class passengers, as well as for select Miles & More elite members. It’s a bit disappointing that there’s not even free chatting available for loyalty program members, or anything like that.

Here’s what Izabela Leszczyńska, LOT’s Director of Product Development and Customer Experience Officer, had to say about this news:

“We are proud to bring Viasat Amara to LOT Polish Airlines as they take this important step in elevating the long‑haul passenger experience. Delivering fast, reliable in‑flight Wi‑Fi on the Dreamliner fleet is a meaningful milestone, and LOT’s commitment to offering high‑quality connectivity reflects a deep understanding of what today’s travelers expect. With Viasat’s global satellite network and Viasat’s Amara connectivity solution, passengers can stay productive, entertained, and connected throughout their journey, from gate-to-gate—whether they’re working, streaming, or keeping in touch with family and friends. We look forward to continuing our partnership as LOT expands connectivity across its fleet.”

Business class passengers will get free Wi-Fi

Bottom line

LOT Polish Airlines is finally introducing inflight Wi-Fi on its long haul flights. The airline is partnering with Viasat, and connectivity is free for business class passengers, while it costs $7-29 for other passengers.

Ultimately it’s great to see LOT finally introduce Wi-Fi, since this was a reason some people avoided the airline, especially on long daytime flights. At the same time, just starting to introduce paid Viasat Wi-Fi in 2026 seems a bit underwhelming, when competitors roll out Starlink Wi-Fi, which is faster and consistently free.

What do you make of LOT’s Wi-Fi development?
