Virgin Atlantic has scheduled limited-time Airbus A350-1000 service between London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and Tampa International Airport (TPA) for more than two weeks in the spring of 2026, according to a report by Aeroroutes.
The reason for deploying the higher-capacity widebody aircraft on the route has not been disclosed. Under normal operations, the British carrier typically uses its Airbus A330-900 (A330neo) fleet on this corridor.
A350-1000 To Bring Additional Seats To The Corridor
From March 29, 2026, through April 14, 2026, Virgin Atlantic will operate its Airbus A350-1000 on the transatlantic route between London Heathrow (LHR) and Tampa (TPA). The aircraft swap increases capacity to 335 seats, compared with the 262-seat Airbus A330neo normally used on the route. The temporary upgauge will also provide passengers with additional premium seating options, as the A350-1000 offers more business and premium economy seats than the A330neo.
According to ch-aviation data, Virgin Atlantic has a total of 12 A350-1000s in its fleet, with an average age of 5.1 years. The carrier’s A350-1000s can accommodate a total of 335 passengers in a three-class cabin layout: 44 in Upper Class (business class), 56 in premium economy, and 235 in economy class.
Meanwhile, the airline’s A330neos can seat up to 262 passengers in a three-class cabin configuration: 32 in Upper Class (business class), 46 in premium economy, and 184 in economy class. At present, Virgin operates eight A330neos, with an average age of 2.2 years. Looking ahead, the British long-haul airline is awaiting 16 additional A330neo deliveries. In addition to A350s and A330neos, Virgin operates five older-generation A330-300 twin-jets.
Daily Flights Between The Two Cities
Virgin Atlantic operates daily nonstop flights from 
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) to Tampa (TPA), with a flight time of approximately nine to ten hours. The flight distance between the two airports is 3,833 nautical miles (7,089 km). The carrier launched the route in November 2022 with four weekly frequencies before later increasing to daily service.
Virgin Atlantic’s decision to use the A350-1000 for a short period will temporarily increase the number of seats available between the UK and Tampa. The move suggests the airline is seeing strong demand on the route as Tampa’s international traffic continues to grow. Passengers will also benefit from the A350’s upgraded cabin and additional premium seating options during the spring 2026 travel period.
British Airways also operates nonstop service between London and Tampa. However, the British flag carrier flies from London Gatwick (LGW), not Heathrow. British Airways deploys its Boeing 777-300ER widebody aircraft on the route, which can accommodate 254 passengers in a four-class cabin layout.

Transatlantic Routes From Tampa International Airport

Delta Air Lines operates daily nonstop flights from Tampa to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) using Airbus A330-300 aircraft.
Germany’s Lufthansa offers nonstop service from Tampa to Frankfurt Airport (FRA), also with Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Meanwhile, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) operates nonstop flights from Tampa to Zurich Airport (ZRH) with its Airbus A350 widebody.
Other international flights from Tampa serve destinations across South America, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Canada. From Tampa, passengers can reach Toronto, St. John’s, Ottawa, Montreal, Halifax, and Calgary. Airlines operating to Canadian destinations include Air Canada, WestJet, and Porter Airlines. Additional international destinations include Havana, Mexico City, Panama City, Punta Cana, San Juan, Cancún, and Santo Domingo, among others. Carriers serving these markets include JetBlue Airways, Frontier Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Aeroméxico, and Copa Airlines.
