More airlines are due to move over to Manchester Airport’s rejuvenated Terminal 2 before the end of 2025 as the airport’s transformation program nears completion. Several carriers have already switched to Terminal 2 within the past month, including British Airways.

Among the notable movers will be low-cost carrier easyJet, which is among the airport’s largest airlines. Terminal 2’s new Check-in East Zone A has recently opened, while work on Pier 2 and retail areas is progressing well.

According to the airport, another batch of airlines will be shifting their operations over to the revamped Terminal 2 within the next few weeks. This will include Air Transat, Gulf Air, Norse Atlantic Airways, SAS and easyJet. While Air Transat, Gulf Air, Norse Atlantic and SAS collectively operate just a handful of routes, easyJet is one of the biggest carriers at Manchester Airport (MAN) with almost 90 destinations in its network.

Air Transat will be the first to shift over tomorrow, while easyJet will be the last of these carriers, with a move-in date of November 19. These airlines join others that have already made the move, including Aer Lingus, British Airways, Finnair, Icelandair, Loganair, and Luxair. The most recent addition to the terminal was Icelandair, which made the move on October 28 for its direct service to Reykjavík.

According to MAN’s latest project update, T2 Check-in East Zone A is now open, featuring 200 self-service kiosks, 48 exception desks, 12 referral desks, and 24 hybrid desks to support departing travelers. The facility was designed to improve passenger flow and minimize queues, with a range of both staffed and self-service kiosks helping the airport cope with a rise in future capacity.

Progress continues with other facets of T2’s transformation, including its expansive retail and dining amenities. The terminal’s retail areas — called The Boutique and The Avenue — will feature a blend of luxury and high-street brands, while a large food hall called the Great Northern Market will be able to accommodate almost 500 people.

Duty-free shopping options will also be significantly expanded with a new World Duty Free store covering over 2,165 square metres. Other enhancements include improved facilities and accessibility that Manchester Airport promises will significantly improve the airport experience for passengers.

Inside MAN’s Transformation Project

Terminal 2’s expansion and renovation is a core part of Manchester Airport’s £1.3 billion ($1.71 billion) airport transformation plan, which will significantly boost capacity and quality at the UK’s third-busiest airport. First announced in 2015, the first phase of T2’s revamp opened in 2021, and now the terminal is almost completely finished.

Phase 1 involved constructing an extension of the terminal to more than double its size, while the next phase primarily involves redesigning and refurbishing its interior, as well as the construction of the new Pier 2. The airport is targeting completion by the end of the year, by which time up to 80% of passengers at Manchester Airport will pass through T2.

Once T2 is fully operational, Terminal 1 will close operations and all of its airlines will be relocated to Terminals 2 or 3. Terminal 3 will become dedicated to low-cost airlines, primarily housing Ryanair operations, and will see its passenger capacity shoot up by around 40%.
