LATAM Airlines Orders Up to 74 Embraer E195-E2 Jets For South American Expansion

Embraer has announced that the LATAM Airlines Group will expand its connectivity across South America by ordering up to 74 units of the Brazilian planemaker’s next-generation E195-E2 regional jet. This figure is split between 24 firm orders and options for another 50 more, with deliveries commencing next year.

Indeed, from the second half of 2026, LATAM Airlines Brazil will begin receiving these modern regional jets, with the group remaining open to deploying the type at some of its other subsidiary carriers further down the line. With the firm orders alone valued at $2.1 billion, this represents a significant commitment from LATAM.

Another Order In The Books

Embraer confirmed in a statement released earlier today that it had shaken hands with the LATAM Airlines Group on a huge order for the largest variant from its next-generation E2 series of regional jets. The deal, it says, “underscores the LATAM Group’s ongoing investment in strengthening its domestic and regional operations, building on steady and profitable growth achieved over the past four years.”

According to Embraer, LATAM will use its new regional aircraft to both serve new routes and give its passengers more options on existing corridors. This initiative will see the group build on its existing network growth, which, as Embraer notes, has seen its portfolio grow by 24% from 129 to 160 destinations since 2021. Roberto Alvo, who currently serves as the CEO of the LATAM Airlines Group, said that:

“The LATAM Group’s decision is based on the excellent economics and versatility of the Embraer E195-E2, which will allow us to continue on our path of profitable growth by enhancing that connectivity through the opening of new destinations, allowing our passengers to have even more options and bringing communities closer, boosting also economic and social development.”

Such A Deal Was Discussed As Early As Last Summer

According to present fleet data made available by ch-aviation, LATAM Airlines does not currently have any commercial jets from Embraer at its disposal, nor has it ever flown any of the Brazilian planemaker’s regional aircraft. This might come as something of a surprise, given LATAM’s huge South American presence, and the fact that Embraer is by far the continent’s largest commercial aircraft manufacturer.

However, that is not to say that this deal has come completely out of the blue. Indeed, Simple Flying reported back in August of 2025 that LATAM Brazil was weighing up both the Airbus A220 and the Embraer E2 as it considered a fleet expansion. At present, LATAM’s fleet is dominated by Airbus narrowbodies.

In fact, ch-aviation shows that LATAM’s only current widebody aircraft are three Airbus A330s (leased from Wamos Air), nine Boeing 767s, 10 777s, and 37 787s. This figure of 59 twin-aisle aircraft represents just 17.6% of its total fleet of 335 jets, with the single-aisle side of things being made up of 39 A319s, 135 A320s, 39 A320neos, (eight on order), 49 A321s, and 13 A321neos (69 on order, plus 10 A321XLRs).

The Operational Advantages Of The Embraer E195-E2

The stretched E195-E2 is comfortably the most popular variant from the Embraer E-Jet E2 family, with data from the company showing that it had racked up 330 orders as of July 21, 2025. Meanwhile, the mid-sized E190-E2 had amassed 67 orders, while the short-fuselage E175-E2 remains on hold.

According to Embraer, this large next-generation regional jet “combines competitive seat costs, superior fuel efficiency, and enhanced passenger comfort,” with its four-abreast (2-2) economy class seating configuration being cited as a key factor on the latter front. This layout is consistent across all variants.

The South American manufacturer also highlights that “the aircraft delivers up to 30% lower fuel consumption per seat compared to previous-generation models,” with its advanced aerodynamics and Pratt & Whitney GTF engines working in harmony to realize this goal. Also boasting “the latest fly-by-wire technology,” the Embraer E195-E2 is at the forefront of modern regional aviation, as LATAM guests will soon see.
