The Longest Boeing 737 MAX Routes In The World

The Boeing 737 MAX is Boeing’s latest and most fuel-efficient narrowbody airliner. Because of the aerodynamic improvements and new CFM LEAP-1B engines, it’s one of the most fuel-efficient airliners in the aviation industry, and as such, it has greatly extended range compared to the 737NG. As such, airlines can deploy these planes on incredibly long routes, and flying the 737 MAX allows airlines to greatly reduce fuel costs compared to the 737NG.

There are nearly 2,000 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in service, made up exclusively of 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9 models. Additionally, Boeing is currently working on certifying the 737 MAX 7 and 737 MAX 10. It’s operated by dozens of airlines worldwide, which deploy the jet on some extremely long routes. Using data from Cirium, an aviation data analytics company, here are the world’s longest routes using the Boeing 737 MAX 8 for October 2025.

Overview Of The Boeing 737 MAX

The Boeing 737 MAX is the fourth generation of the Boeing 737. While each 737 generation has introduced major changes to the aircraft for improved fuel efficiency and superior operating economics, the 737 MAX was a relatively mild upgrade from the 737NG. The primary change from the 737NG was replacing the CFM56-7B with the CFM LEAP-1B, while also adding a new split-tip winglet design named “Advanced Technology”, a new tailcone design, a longer nose-landing gear, and a refreshed cockpit.

Currently, Boeing is producing the 737 MAX 8 and 737 MAX 9. These are direct successors to the 737-800 and 737-900ER. The 737-800 is the world’s most common aircraft variant in service, and the 737 MAX 8 has proven to be just as successful. The Boeing 737-900ER, however, has only received 505 sales since its introduction in 2007, and the 737 MAX 9 has received even fewer orders as customers have instead preferred the 737 MAX 10.

The 737 MAX 7, while it succeeds the 737-700, is more than a refresh. Instead, Boeing shrunk the 737 MAX 8 (the 737-700 had significant differences with the 737-800) and the variant also ended up being larger than the 737-700. The 737 MAX 10, meanwhile, was a further stretch to make the aircraft more competitive with the Airbus A321neo, which has received over 7,000 orders. While its orderbook of roughly 1,200 units isn’t nearly as impressive, the MAX 10 has been far more popular than the MAX 9.

Arajet is the flag carrier of the Dominican Republic. It’s a low-cost carrier that operates a fleet of 12 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, with orders for four additional examples. Furthermore, Arajet has outstanding orders for 20 Boeing 737 MAX 200s, a high-density variant of the 737 MAX 8 with a revised interior layout and two extra exit doors, which increases the jet’s maximum capacity to 200 passengers.

Arajet operates the 737 MAX 8 from Punta Cana International Airport to Santiago Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport. This is the carrier’s second-longest flight, and the world’s sixth-longest Boeing 737 MAX route. It spans a distance of 3,108 NM (5,756 KM) and is blocked for a time of seven hours 56 minutes flying south to Chile and eight hours and 15 minutes when returning to the Dominican Republic.

Data from aeroLOPA shows that Arajet operates four different configurations of the 737 MAX 8. Two of these configurations are in an all-economy layout with 189 seats, the exit limit for the standard 737 MAX 8. The other two layouts feature eight business class seats and 177 economy seats. The differences come in the galley layouts and the location of the lavatories. These configurations also differ in the seat models used, as Arajet has Safran, Collins, or Recaro seats depending on the layout.

GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes S.A. is Brazil’s largest domestic airline and the country’s third-largest international carrier. It operates daily flights from its hub in Brasília to Miami International Airport, using one of its 55 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. This route spans a distance of 3,127 NM (5,792 KM), making it the world’s fifth-longest 737 MAX and GOL’s fourth-longest route overall. GOL blocks seven hours and 50 minutes flying north and seven hours and 25 minutes returning.

Its third-longest route is from Fortaleza-Pinto Martins International Airport to Orlando International Airport. It’s a smaller city in Brazil, but it receives significant service from AZUL, GOL, and LATAM. The route to Orlando operates only on Thursdays with a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The route spans a distance of 3,132 NM (5,800 KM), and it’s blocked for eight hours 15 minutes heading to Orlando, and seven hours 55 minutes coming back. This is the world’s fourth-longest 737 MAX route.

GOL’s second-longest route is from Brasília to Cancun. Cancun International Airport is the second-busiest in Mexico, and while most of its services are to the US and Canada, it also has significant service to Europe, the Caribbean, as well as South America. GOL’s route from Brasília operates between two and three times a week, flying 3,184 NM (5,897 KM). It’s blocked for eight hours and five minutes flying north and seven hours and 30 minutes returning. This is the world’s third-longest 737 MAX route.

Arajet operates the second-longest Boeing 737 MAX route in the world. This route is from Punta Cana to Buenos Aires Ministro Pistarini International Airport. This is the carrier’s longest flight, and it crosses a distance of 3,239 NM (5,999 KM), which is nearly as long as the distance from Punta Cana to Iceland. Flight times are blocked for eight hours and nine minutes traveling to Buenos Aires and eight hours returning.

Arajet competes with Aerolíneas Argentinas on this route, which operates an Airbus A330-200 on the same route. Arajet positions itself as the low-cost option on this route, with cheaper ticket prices at the expense of a more barebones onboard experience. Aerolíneas Argentinas offers a proper long-haul business class, along with seatback screens in economy, and the ability to carry meaningful cargo on this route by using a widebody.

Arajet flies up to two flights per day on this route. It uses its two-class Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, configured with eight business class seats and 177 economy seats. Arajet schedules its planes freely, offering either of its two layouts that feature business class on this route. One layout uses the Collins Aerospace MiQ seat in business class and the Collins Meridian in economy, while the other uses the Safran 6810 and Safran Z85.

GOL operates the world’s longest Boeing 737 MAX route in the world. It uses a Boeing 737 MAX 8 to fly daily services between Brasilia-President Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport and Orlando International Airport. The route spans a distance of 3,282 NM (6,079 KM), which makes it longer than many routes from New York to Western Europe. Flight times are blocked for eight hours and 15 minutes traveling north and seven hours and 55 minutes returning to Brasília.

GOL is the only airline operating this route. It’s one of two major budget airlines in the country (along with AZUL), and it operates with a fleet of 138 Boeing 737s. The 737 MAX 8 has become a major part of the carrier’s fleet, with 55 examples and another 46 on order. GOL also flies 64 737-800s, 12 737-700s, and seven 737-800Fs. It operates some of the world’s longest 737 routes, including the very longest. Below is a list of the six longest 737 routes in the world.

Because it’s a low-cost carrier, GOL’s onboard offering is far from luxurious. All of its 737s feature an all-economy layout, and the 737 MAX 8s are configured with 186 seats, identical to its 737-800s. GOL does, however, sell the first five rows of its 737s as premium economy, which offer more legroom and a blocked middle seat, comparable to regional European business class. With extra space and low fares, GOL offers a strong value proposition to its customers, especially with its nonstop flights on thin routes.

The One-Off Routes With The 737 MAX

These are the world’s six longest regularly scheduled routes with the Boeing 737 MAX. However, airlines occasionally perform equipment swaps, and in October, there were five routes that saw the 737 MAX 8 as a one-off or equipment swap that were just as long or even longer than the aforementioned routes.

TUI scheduled the 737 MAX 8 to fly one-way twice from Stockholm to Espargos, Cape Verde, measuring at 3,126 NM (5,790 KM), which is longer than Arajet’s route from Punta Cana to Santiago. Icelandair operated the 737 MAX 8 once round-trip on its route from Reykjavík to Seattle, measuring at 3,148 NM (5,830 KM), which is longer than GOL’s route from Fortaleza to Orlando.

TUI, meanwhile, also flew the 737 MAX 8 one way, once from Stockholm to Sal Rei, Cape Verde, Espargos to Helsinki, and from Helsinki to Sal Rei. These routes measure at 3,158 NM (5,846 KM), 3,325 NM (6,158 KM), and 3,356 NM (6,215 KM). The one-off flights from Espargos to Helsinki and Helsinki to Sal Rei were the two longest 737 MAX flights in the world in October. As these are not regularly scheduled routes, they were likely repositioning flights.
