Finnair to lease Embraer E190-E1 and ATR-72-600 aircraft for Norra operations

A week after announcing its largest order in years, Finnair has signed Letters of Intent (LOI) for the lease of two Embraer E190-E1 and two ATR-72-600 aircraft.

On March 30, 2026, Finnair confirmed that the E190-E1 and ATR-72-600 aircraft would be assigned to its regional operator Norra.

According to the Finnish flag carrier, Norra currently operates 12 Embraer E190-E1a and 12 ATR-72-500. Finnair added that it plans to increase the number of jets operated by Norra to eighteen.

The aircraft will join the fleet of Finnair’s partner Norra by summer and early autumn 2026.

“An extensive regional network plays an important role as we seek to grow our network from our key markets,” says Christine Rovelli, Chief Revenue Officer, Finnair. “These aircraft will further strengthen our schedule reliability and add to the flexibility of our fleet deployment.”

On March 23, 2026, Finnair revealed that it had signed an agreement with Embraer for up to 46 E195-E2s.

The Embraer agreement also includes options for 16 additional E195-E2s and 12 purchase rights.

Finnair CEO Turkka Kuusisto described the order as “one of the largest investments in Finnair’s 102-year-old history, and a vital step in our strategy”.

A contract was also signed with Pratt & Whitney for the purchase of spare engines and maintenance services for the PW1900G GTF engines that power Embraer E2.

Additionally, Finnair plans to source up to 12 A320/321ceos from the used aircraft market, to replace the oldest A319s and A320s in the fleet over the next few years.
