Introducing Australia’s Sole A350-1000 Service (For Now)
The UAE carrier has flown to Australia since 2007, when routes to Brisbane and
Etihad now serves Sydney 10 times a week. This long route, which covers 6,510 nautical miles (12,057 km) each way, currently sees the 371-seat A350-1000 four times a week, while the 303-seat 787-9 is on the remaining flights. However, all flights will be on the A350-1000 from December 6. This reflects the situation as of November 7. Etihad could change the plan again, especially for next year.
According to ch-aviation, Etihad currently has nine A350-1000s. Each frame has 371 seats in the same layout. There are 44 seats in business (1-2-1) and 327 in economy (3-3; 35″ pitch in Economy Space and 31″ in bog-standard economy). Earlier this year, I reviewed its business class cabin on what is its new longest route: Abu Dhabi to Atlanta.

More Than 8 In 10 Passengers Transit In Abu Dhabi
Booking data for September 2024 to August 2025 indicates that over 160,000 Etihad’s Sydney passengers transited through Abu Dhabi to another flight. Entirely unsurprisingly, most people—over 70% of its transit traffic—flew to/from Europe.
As the image above shows, the route’s schedule is set up for this market. The airline’s departures from Abu Dhabi to Sydney at 09:50 and—in particular—at 21:05 are fed by many arriving flights from Europe. In the other direction, its 23:50 arrival time feeds large numbers of Europe-bound services. Its 05:00 service doesn’t; this is more about its absolute core European markets and key cities in the Middle East and North Africa.
To no one’s surprise, booking data shows that the UK is comfortably Etihad’s top Sydney market. Lebanon is second, followed by Italy, Greece, Spain, France, Germany, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. At the city level, it is all about London. Beirut was the next most popular city, followed by Athens, Rome, Dublin, Paris, Istanbul, Cairo, Manchester, and Frankfurt.
It Is Australia’s 4th-Longest A350 Route, But That Will Change
Let’s extend the analysis to include the A350-900. Analyzing all A350 airlines’ Australian nonstop flights between November 2025 and August 2026 shows that Delta’s brand-new offering from Los Angeles to Melbourne is the longest service. Starting on December 3, its maximum block time is 16h 05m.
Delta from Los Angeles to Sydney is second (up to 15h 15m), while the same carrier’s offering from Los Angeles to Brisbane is third (up to 14h 45m). At up to 14h 30m, Etihad’s A350-1000 service is now Australia’s fourth-longest A350-operated operation.
