An ACT Airlines Boeing 747-400F model which was operating Emirates flight EK-9788 from Dubai’s Al Maktoum Airport (DWC) landed on Hong Kong’s runway 07L at 03:52 local time. Upon landing, the aircraft slowed to around 100 knots before veering off the left of the runway. The aircraft quickly broke through the perimeter fence, struck a nearby patrol car that was parked outside the fence at a safe distance, and continued into the seat at a speed of around 60 knots before breaking apart.
Both of the occupants of the patrol vehicle in question were killed instantly as a result of the incident. This included a 30-year-old with seven years of experience in the position and a 41-year-old with a greater twelve years of experience. Allo four members of the crew were rescued in the wake of the incident and subsequently hospitalized before being reported in stable condition by the flight’s operator, Emirates.
The aircraft, according to the latest reports from the Aviation Herald, was carrying no cargo at the time that the incident happened. Hong Kong’s Air Accident Investigation Authority opened an investigation and noted that the aircraft deviated from the North Runway after landing and quickly ditched into the sea.
